§ 11-7. General construction and operating requirements.

  • (a)

    All service stations shall be designed and constructed in conformity with the codes, regulations and ordinances adopted by the city.

    (b)

    All permanent storage of material, merchandise and equipment other than liquid fuel shall be within the building.

    (c)

    All lubrication, repair and servicing equipment shall be entirely enclosed within the building.

    (d)

    Accessory buildings shall not be permitted.

    (e)

    Exterior lighting shall be so arranged as to reflect away from adjoining residential areas. There shall be no flashing or revolving lights.

    (f)

    Use of acetylene torches or welding equipment on the premises of a service station is prohibited unless the building thereon is serviced by an automatic sprinkler system.

    (g)

    Gasoline or other inflammable mixtures shall not be used to wash down the premises.

    (h)

    Drains located on the premises without approved separators in the trap are prohibited.

    (i)

    All repair work except minor repairs and ordinary servicing shall be done indoors.

    (j)

    No operator shall permit the storage of automobiles for a period in excess of twenty-four (24) hours unless the vehicle is enclosed in the building.

    (k)

    No operator shall deposit or cause to be deposited upon the roadways adjacent to the premises, snow or ice or other debris cleared from the premises.

    (l)

    If a service station has been abandoned, or not in actual continuous use for a period of more than one (1) year, it shall be the duty of the owner of the property to remove all gasoline storage tanks in the ground.

    (m)

    Driveways, service areas and parking areas shall be provided with pavement having an asphaltic or portland cement binder so as to provide a permanent, durable and dustless surface and shall be so graded and drained as to dispose of all surface water accumulated within the area without draining such water on abutting private property.
